Cairo, Egypt – Cinemas have pulled the film “Barshama” starring Hesham Maged after an 80-day run. The film premiered during the Eid al-Fitr 2026 season and continued its theatrical run throughout the Eid al-Adha season before being pulled from theaters this week.
204 million pounds in revenue
During its theatrical run, the film grossed 204 million Egyptian pounds, ranking second on the list of highest-grossing films in the history of Egyptian cinema.
Events inside an examination committee
The events of the film “Barshama” take place inside the high school exam committee (home system) in one of the rural villages, during the Arabic language exam, where the students believe that the supervisor has died suddenly, which prompts them to try to take advantage of the situation to cheat, even though none of them knows the answers.
Diverse characters and satirical situations
With the diverse personalities within the committee—ranging from a religiously devout high-achieving student and the mayor’s son determined to succeed by any means, to a dancer dreaming of travel, an elderly woman seeking a pension increase, and a former criminal looking for a fresh start—the atmosphere transforms into a series of satirical comedic situations and amusing paradoxes.

The film boasts a large cast of stars, most notably Hesham Maged, Reham Abdel Ghafour, Bassem Samra, Mostafa Gharib, Hatem Salah, Michel Milad, Fadwa Abed, Kamal Abu Raya, Arfa Abdel Rasoul, Walid Fawaz, Faten Saeed, Mohamed Abu Dawood, Ahmed Mohareb, and Mohamed El Sewisy. It is directed by Khaled Diab, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Sherine Diab and Ahmed El Zoghby, and produced by Ahmed Desouky.
