Abu Dhabi, UAE – UAE Minister of State Lana Nusseibeh discussed with Javier Colomina, NATO Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy and Special Representative of the Secretary General for the Southern Neighbourhood, ways to enhance partnership and cooperation between the two sides in a number of areas of common interest.
Discussions and strengthening of defense cooperation
The talks took place during Nusseibeh’s reception of the NATO official in Abu Dhabi.
The two sides discussed the rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape in Europe and the Middle East,
and emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation to support regional and international stability.
The visit follows a phone call in March between UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
In addition, a series of meetings were held between officials from both sides to explore opportunities for expanding cooperation.
The two sides reviewed opportunities to enhance the resilience and sustainability of defense supply chains with trusted partners.
They also discussed supporting operational integration and exploring new areas for practical cooperation between the UAE and NATO.
Ongoing partnership
Lana Nusseibeh affirmed that the UAE has a long-standing record of cooperation with NATO,
including training programs and participation in numerous NATO-led operations in various regions.
The Minister of State emphasized the UAE’s commitment to constructive international partnerships
that contribute to enhancing security and stability at both the regional and international levels.
She also stressed the importance of continued coordination and cooperation with international partners.
Both sides agreed to continue the dialogue regarding future partnership prospects and opportunities for cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The meeting was attended by several senior officials and experts from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense,
as well as representatives from government entities and the private sector.
