Abu Dhabi, UAE – German Chancellor Friedrich Merz strongly condemned the renewed Iranian airstrikes and missile attacks on the United Arab Emirates and other regional partners. Merz called on Tehran to immediately cease threatening its neighbors. He also demanded the reopening of the strategic Strait of Hormuz to international navigation without any restrictions or conditions. In a tweet posted on his official Twitter account (formerly known as “X”) on Monday, Merz stated: “Berlin unequivocally condemns these repeated Iranian attacks.”
The German Chancellor added, warning of the catastrophic consequences of the escalation: “Attacks targeting nuclear facilities pose a direct and serious threat to the safety and lives of all residents of the region,” referring to the recent attack by suicide drones. The attack targeted the vicinity of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.
In concluding his remarks, Chancellor Merz emphasized the firm European stance on the need for restraint, stressing that “there must be no further escalation of violence” in the Middle East to ensure water security and the smooth flow of international trade.
