Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – Malaysia and Bangladesh are moving to strengthen their economic ties by working towards a new free trade agreement, expected to be finalized and implemented by 2027. This move aims to increase trade volume and open up broader investment opportunities between the two countries.
Officials from both sides confirmed that the ongoing talks are making significant progress, focusing on removing trade barriers, facilitating the movement of goods and services, and enhancing cooperation in priority economic sectors, including manufacturing, technology, agriculture, and consumer goods.
Kuala Lumpur and Dhaka are seeking to capitalize on the significant potential of their economies. Bangladesh is one of the fastest-growing economies in South Asia, while Malaysia is a major trade and investment hub in Southeast Asia.
Economic experts believe the anticipated agreement will significantly boost bilateral trade, encouraging companies to expand their investments and take advantage of more flexible customs procedures and regulations.
The two sides also discussed opportunities to enhance cooperation in the areas of supply chains, energy, the digital economy, and human resource development, emphasizing the importance of building a long-term economic partnership that serves mutual interests and supports sustainable growth in both countries.
Further rounds of negotiations are expected in the coming months to finalize the agreement, with optimism that a final version can be reached, ushering in a new era of economic and trade cooperation between Malaysia and Bangladesh.
