Berlin, Germany – Siemens, one of the world’s largest engineering and technology giants, reported a surprising surge in orders during the first three months of this year. This increase exceeded analysts’ expectations despite the “highly tense geopolitical environment” resulting from the outbreak of the Iran war.
Strong growth driven by the defense and energy sectors
According to company data reported by Reuters, new orders jumped 11% between January and March 2026.
This growth is a key indicator of the company’s future performance. It was driven by exceptional demand from the United States, as well as increasing needs from large data centers and energy companies.
Notably, defense manufacturers also contributed to this surge in orders. This comes as countries increasingly increase their military budgets to secure their strategic needs amidst global instability.
Effects of war and supply chains
For his part, the company’s CEO, Roland Busch, told reporters that “customer purchasing behavior” has not yet been significantly affected by the turmoil stemming from the US-Israeli war on Iran, which began at the end of February.
Busch explained that although sales and profits were slightly below previous expectations, the influx of new orders reflects investor confidence in the engineering and technological solutions offered by the company.
Careful monitoring of the future
However, the administration’s statements were not without caution; Bush emphasized that Siemens is closely monitoring developments on the ground and their potential impact on global inflation and the stability of supply chains.
He noted that a continuation of the war could affect consumer and business sentiment in the future. Therefore, a flexible strategy is needed to address any sudden disruptions to international trade routes or shipping and energy costs.
These results reflect the ability of major industrial companies to adapt to crises. In some respects, geopolitical threats have been transformed into growth opportunities in the defense and digital energy infrastructure sectors.
