N’Djamena, Chad – The United Nations has warned that Chad’s health system is under immense and increasing pressure. This warning comes amid successive humanitarian crises and a shortage of medical resources, threatening the ability of hospitals and health centers to respond to the basic needs of the population.
UN agencies confirmed that the influx of refugees and internally displaced persons from neighboring conflict zones has placed unprecedented strain on the health sector. Furthermore, seasonal disease outbreaks and weak infrastructure have had a significant impact, particularly in border and rural areas.
Reports indicate that medical facilities in Chad are suffering from a severe shortage of medicines, medical supplies, and healthcare personnel. There are growing concerns that the humanitarian situation will deteriorate further if urgent international support is not provided to bolster health and humanitarian services.
The United Nations has called on the international community to increase funding and humanitarian aid to Chad. It also stressed that the continuation of the crisis could exacerbate the suffering of millions of people, particularly children, women, and the elderly.
Chad is currently facing complex humanitarian challenges, compounded by economic and security pressures and a growing number of people in need of healthcare and basic services.
