Zurich, Switzerland – FIFA has launched an investigation into the events that followed the 2026 World Cup final between Argentina and Spain. FIFA aims to take disciplinary action that could affect a number of Argentine players and officials.

The Spanish newspaper Marca reported that FIFA’s disciplinary committee will base its decision on the referee’s report. The committee will also review television footage to assess all the incidents that occurred at the end of the match before issuing any official sanctions.

According to the report, midfielder Leandro Paredes is at the forefront of the cases under investigation, after he was sent off following the final whistle for violent conduct. He was dismissed after clashing with several Spanish players during the victory celebrations.

FIFA is also reviewing the incident involving Nahuel Molina, who is reportedly accused of punching Spain captain Rodri. Additionally, there is an allegation against assistant coach Roberto Ayala for allegedly pushing Dani Olmo during the post-match altercation.

The investigation also extended to certain actions during the trophy presentation ceremony, after several Argentine players turned their backs as the Spanish team lifted the championship cup. This incident sparked widespread controversy following the final.

FIFA has not yet issued any disciplinary decisions, as it is awaiting the completion of its review of all evidence and the hearing of official reports. Potential sanctions, expected to be announced in the coming period, will be revealed later.
