In an interview with the Argentine newspaper Olé, Scaloni confirmed that he will continue working with the national team until next December. After that, he will reassess his future, saying: “I will continue as Argentina’s coach until December, and then I might stop”.
He added: “I will speak with the president of the Argentine Football Association, and I believe I have the right to take some time to think. I never imagined reaching this stage, and what has been achieved is wonderful”.
The Argentine coach pointed out that continuing the project requires a new approach, both mentally and technically. He explained, “Continuing means rebuilding the team and renewing motivation, which is no easy challenge”.
Scaloni also addressed the future of national team captain Lionel Messi, confirming that he does not expect the player to retire at the moment. He added, “I was certain that Messi would continue playing until he himself decided to stop”.
He concluded his remarks by praising the captain of the Argentine national team, adding: “I hope everyone feels proud of what he has done, because for me he is the best player in the history of football, and I have no doubt about that”.
