Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – French striker Karim Benzema, who plays for Al-Hilal, has clarified his position regarding the rumors circulating about the possibility of him leaving the team during the current transfer window.
Benzema’s statements came after Al-Hilal led the team to a 3-0 victory over Al-Fayha in the second round of the Saudi League, confirming his continued focus on the team in the coming period.
The French striker told Rotana Khalijia: “My future? I’m playing football here, and we’ll see what happens. I have a contract with the club, and everything is fine”.
The Saudi newspaper “Al-Riyadh” reported that Al-Hilal’s management offered Benzema a move to one of the newly promoted clubs, but the player rejected the idea.
For its part, Sky Sports indicated that there are complications related to the French striker’s contract, explaining that part of his salary is received from entities affiliated with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which makes terminating his contract dependent on more than just an agreement between the player and the club.
Benzema spoke about the Al-Fayha match, saying: “It was a good match, and it was difficult to play because of the heat, but in the end we won the match”.
He added: “We are happy to have collected 6 points, and with that we have succeeded in accomplishing the mission”.
The Al-Hilal striker concluded his remarks by saying: “We are developing and training well, and we strive to be better”.
Al-Hilal raised its tally to 6 points after its victory over Al-Fayha, after starting its league campaign with a 4-2 win over Al-Faisaly. Benzema scored a penalty kick goal during the first round, but was unable to score against Al-Fayha.
