Trabzon, Turkey — Trabzonspor lost 1-0 to visiting Hungarian side Ferencváros in the first leg of their Europa League play-off tie on Thursday evening.
The match marked Mohamed Salah’s first start for Trabzonspor. He had previously come on as a substitute in the opening Turkish league match against Kasimpasa, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Trabzonspor started the match aggressively, with their first attempt coming from Salah. He penetrated the penalty area and unleashed a powerful shot that was saved by the goalkeeper.
Against the run of play, Ferencváros opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Kristoffer Zachariasin, who headed the ball into the back of the net.

The Egyptian captain contributed to creating several opportunities for his teammates, including a pass to substitute Ernest Muchi. Muchi unleashed a powerful shot that flashed across the face of the Hungarian goal.
Trabzonspor continued their efforts until the final minutes, but failed to find the net against Ferencváros. Furthermore, Chibuike Nwayu was shown a straight red card after an altercation with players from the Hungarian team.
The second leg will be played next Thursday at the Groupama Stadium in Hungary. Trabzonspor needs to win by two goals or more to advance to the league stage, while Ferencváros only needs a draw or a win by any score.
