Paris, France – Al Jazira Club of the UAE has entered the competition to sign Algerian Riyad Mahrez during the current summer transfer window, as the club seeks to strengthen its ranks with a strong signing, after the player became available for transfer without compensation.

The French newspaper “Foot Mercato” stated that Mahrez has several options to continue his career, including interest from Al-Jazira, in addition to the Saudi club Neom and the Italian duo Roma and Como.

Mahrez’s future is now open to several destinations, as the Algerian player seeks to make a decision about his next move during the summer transfer window, amid growing interest in his services.

Al Jazeera is awaiting Mahrez’s decision

Mahrez’s status as a free agent gives Al Jazira the opportunity to enter into direct negotiations with the player without having to pay a transfer fee to another club, with the negotiations focusing mainly on salary, financial benefits and contract terms.

Al Jazeera’s interest in the Algerian star represents the club’s desire to make a high-profile signing, especially given Mahrez’s extensive experience in European leagues, after shining for years in the English Premier League.

Mahrez: A remarkable career in England

Mahrez began writing the most prominent chapters of his career with Leicester City, and was one of the key elements in the team’s historic achievement of winning the English Premier League title in the 2015-2016 season.

During that season, the Algerian star won the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year award in the English Premier League, and was also crowned African Player of the Year in the same year.

Mahrez moved to Manchester City in the summer of 2018, continuing his successes under Spanish coach Pep Guardiola, winning four Premier League titles, along with the Champions League, FA Cup and League Cup.

Mahrez was part of the Manchester City squad that achieved the historic treble in the 2022-2023 season, before deciding to embark on a new experience in the Saudi League.

Mahrez is a champion of the Africa Cup of Nations with Algeria

At the international level, Riyad Mahrez is one of the most prominent players of the Algerian national team in recent years, and was one of the most important elements of the generation that won the Africa Cup of Nations in 2019.

Mahrez also wore the captain’s armband for the Algerian national team on numerous occasions, leaving a clear mark during his international career.

Mahrez joined Al-Ahli Saudi in the summer of 2023, before his journey with the club ended and he became a free agent, to begin a new phase of his career amid interest from several clubs in acquiring his services.
