East Rutherford, USA – Bad weather has disrupted the preparations of the Argentine and Spanish national teams hours before their highly anticipated clash in the 2026 World Cup final. Thunderstorms have disrupted the final training session for both teams.
The New York New Jersey stadium will host the final match of the 2026 World Cup on Sunday evening. This match will bring together Argentina and Spain in a battle to decide the title of world champion.
Argentina reached the final after defeating England 2-1 in the semi-final, while Spain secured their place with a 2-0 victory over France.
According to ESPN, the Argentine national team was forced to postpone its final training session after a severe thunderstorm hit New Jersey, prompting FIFA to implement safety protocols.
The network added that FIFA instructed players, coaching staff, journalists, and stadium personnel to take shelter in designated facilities and wait until the storm subsided and the risk of lightning had passed.
She noted that the date for Argentina’s final training session has not yet been determined. This will depend on improved weather conditions and the end of the safety protocol’s designated period following the last lightning strike.
Argentina wasn’t the only team affected by the bad weather. Spain also had to cancel their final training session after thunderstorms prevented them from holding it. Thus, Luis de la Fuente’s squad suffered the same blow just hours before the final.
