London, England – The Netherlands vs. Tunisia match, scheduled as part of the third and final round of the group stage of the 2026 World Cup, is now threatened with postponement. This is due to expected severe weather conditions in Kansas City, USA.
The two teams are scheduled to meet in their final group stage match, but weather reports have raised concerns about whether the game can go ahead as planned. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast for the hours surrounding the match.
According to the British newspaper The Sun, there is a 70% chance of thunderstorms in the city. Warnings have also been issued for heavy lightning and rain that could cause localized flooding.
The newspaper indicated that the adverse weather conditions might force organizers to delay the start of the match for several hours. This is especially relevant given the strict regulations in place in the United States regarding holding outdoor sporting events during thunderstorms or when lightning is detected near stadiums.
Tunisia had already been eliminated from contention after suffering defeats against Sweden and Japan. Meanwhile, the Netherlands entered the match at the top of the group with four points, ahead of Japan on goal difference.
This is not the first time World Cup matches have been affected by weather conditions. Earlier in the tournament, the France-Iraq match was postponed for two hours due to heavy rain and poor weather.
The final decision regarding holding the match remains contingent on the latest weather reports and the organizers’ assessment of the storm’s impact on the safety of the players and fans.
