Abu Dhabi, UAE – Ajman made a strong start in the ADNOC Pro League, after defeating their host Al Wahda 3-2, in the match that brought them together at Al Nahyan Stadium as part of the first round of the competition, so the Orange achieved their first victory over the Happiness Owners in the opening matches of the league.
Ajman had previously lost their first two matches against Al Wahda in the opening round of the league, before this time managing to break that streak and achieve an exciting away victory.
Ajman takes an early lead
Ajman started the match strongly and succeeded in opening the scoring after only 5 minutes, through Lorenzi Nascimento, who took advantage of an organized counter-attack that ended with a cross from Yassine Jabri, turning it into the net of Al Wahda.
The visitors maintained their lead until the end of the first half, despite Al Wahda’s relative advantage in possession, as their ball possession rate reached 50.3% compared to 49.7% for Ajman.
In contrast, Ajman had the most shots on goal, with 3 shots compared to Al Wahda’s failure to score any shots between the posts and crossbar, while the home team did not take advantage of the three corner kicks they had during the first half.
Victor Henrique widens the gap
Ajman doubled their lead at the start of the second half, after Victor Henrique scored the second goal in the 51st minute from a direct free kick executed in a distinctive manner.
Al Wahda almost narrowed the gap in the 69th minute, but the post stood in the way of a powerful and sudden shot from Jadsom da Silva.
The home side managed to get back into the game in the 77th minute, when Mohammed Gharbani scored Al Wahda’s first goal with a well-placed header, increasing the excitement as the match entered its final stages.
Ajman wins the match
Victor Henrique returned to confirm his brilliance, after he scored his second personal goal and Ajman’s third goal in the 83rd minute, following a quick counter-attack which he finished with a low shot that passed the goalkeeper and settled in the net.
Al Wahda tried to press hard during the remaining minutes in search of an equalizer, while Ajman’s goalkeeper shone in repelling the home team’s attempts.
In the third minute of stoppage time, Brahima Diarra scored Al Wahda’s second goal, but Ajman held on to their lead until the final whistle, securing their first three points of the new season with a thrilling 3-2 victory.
