Rome – Italy’s Carabinieri Command for the Protection of Cultural Heritage successfully recovered three valuable paintings by French masters Paul Cézanne, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Henri Matisse following a heist at the Fondazione Magnani-Rocca museum near Parma. Consequently, authorities located the artworks inside an apartment in Parma, placing nine Moldovan citizens under formal investigation.

Furthermore, police confirmed the total value of the stolen pieces exceeds €9 million (approximately $10.4 million) since their disappearance last March. Additionally, the recovered works include Cézanne’s Glass and Plate of Cherries, Renoir’s Fish, and Matisse’s Odalisque on the Balcony.

Rapid Heist Captured on Camera and Art Crime Countermeasures

On the other hand, Italian authorities released security footage showing two masked thieves carrying out the heist in under three minutes. Additionally, footage revealed the perpetrators entering through a window before unhooking the canvases and fleeing the venue.

Consequently, law enforcement intensified investigations to uncover potential trafficking networks associated with high-profile art theft. Ultimately, Italian security agencies aim to hold all perpetrators accountable and prevent future breaches targeting historical museum collections.

Finally, this successful recovery marks a major victory for Italian law enforcement in combating international cultural property crime. Ultimately, enhancing museum security infrastructure and tracking networks remain essential to safeguarding global art heritage.
