Uruguayan striker Darwin Núñez, currently playing for Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal, is close to joining Turkish side Trabzonspor during the current summer transfer window. This move would reunite him with his former teammate Mohamed Salah.
According to press reports, Trabzonspor has reached an agreement with Al-Hilal to acquire the services of Núñez. The Turkish club has reportedly beaten Beşiktaş, who were also competing for the Uruguayan striker.
Agreement between Trabzonspor and Al-Hilal regarding Nunez
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavoleri reported that Nunez’s transfer to Trabzonspor has been agreed upon. He also stated that the player will travel to Türkiye tomorrow, Saturday, to finalize the deal.
Tavoleri indicated that the agreement stipulates Nunez’s transfer to the Turkish club on a one-year loan. There is also a clause allowing Trabzonspor to purchase his contract permanently.
Florian Plattenburg, a journalist with Sky Sports, confirmed the same information, indicating that Trabzonspor had won the race at the expense of Besiktas.
Plattenberg wrote on his X platform account: “Nunez will return to Europe immediately to join his former Liverpool teammate, Mohamed Salah, who recently joined the club.”
The Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadh also confirmed that Trabzonspor and Al-Hilal had reached an agreement regarding the transfer of the Uruguayan striker. However, it did not disclose further details of the deal.
Nunez returns to play alongside Salah
Nunez, 27, previously played alongside Mohamed Salah at Liverpool for three seasons. He then left the English club and joined Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal last summer.
In contrast, Salah left Liverpool at the end of last season. He then moved to Trabzonspor on a free transfer, signing a two-year contract.
The Turkish club had announced the signing of the Egyptian national team captain a few days prior. This came amidst great anticipation for his debut in the team’s jersey, with the new deal potentially reuniting Salah and Nunez for an attacking partnership reminiscent of their time together in English football.
