Paraguayan international Alejandro Cacu, the Al Ain midfielder, has sparked controversy regarding his future with the Emirati club, confirming that he has not yet reached a final agreement with the club’s management to renew his contract. His current contract expires at the end of this season, and he indicated that he has received several offers.
Speaking to Paraguayan media after joining his national team’s training camp, Cacu said he prefers to postpone deciding his future until after the upcoming World Cup next month. He explained, “My focus right now is on the national team, and I’m striving to give my best to make the final squad. After that, I’ll decide on my next step.”
The Al Ain player added: “I have several offers, but I will discuss the matter with my agent after the World Cup”.
Kaku spoke about the pressure he’s under from fans and his family to return to the Paraguayan league, with Olimpia and Cerro Porteño both interested in acquiring his services. He said, “I receive a lot of messages urging me to play in Paraguay, and even my family is divided between supporting the two clubs”.
Regarding Paraguay’s ambitions in the World Cup, the player expressed his confidence in his national team’s ability to perform exceptionally. He affirmed, “We believe in our ability to compete with the top teams and cause upsets; we have a different mentality”.
Al Ain had signed Kaku in the summer of 2023 from Al Taawon of Saudi Arabia, on a contract that extends until 2026, after paying the penalty clause in his contract, which amounted to five million dollars.
