Rabat, Morocco – The Egyptian national team qualified for the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations, after defeating Benin 3-1 in the match that took place on Monday evening, as part of the round of 16 competitions.

Egypt met Benin at Adrar Stadium in a match that was competitive and exciting until its final minutes.

The match began with offensive pressure from the Egyptian team, as Omar Marmoush wasted a clear opportunity in the eighth minute after a complete break in front of the goal, before the same player returned and fired a powerful shot in the 20th minute following a cross from Mohamed Hamdi, but the defense cleared it at the last moment.

In the 42nd minute, Mohamed Hamdi suffered an injury, leaving the field and being replaced by Ahmed Fatouh, ending the first half in a goalless draw.

In the second half, the Egyptian national team continued its offensive pressure, until it succeeded in opening the scoring in the 69th minute, through Marwan Attia, after he received a pass from Mohamed Hany and fired a powerful shot from outside the penalty area that settled in the right corner of Benin’s goal.

In the first extra period, Yasser Ibrahim scored the opening goal for Egypt in the 97th minute, after he rose to head home a powerful cross from Marwan Attia, which found the back of the net.
