Dubai, United Arab Emirates – The Professional Fighters League (PFL) held a press conference on Tuesday. They announced details of the highly anticipated rematch between Dagestani Usman Nurmagomedov and Irishman Paul Hughes. The bout is scheduled for October 3 at the Coca-Cola Arena. It is part of the Road to Dubai Series of Champions mixed martial arts tournament. This event is co-organized by the Professional Fighters League (PFL), the Dubai Sports Council, and the Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism.

Irish fighter Paul Hughes confirmed during the press conference that he is entering the upcoming fight in his best physical and mental state. This follows an intensive preparation program. He pointed out that his goal is clear: to win the belt and leave his mark on the tournament’s history. He said, “I have put in a tremendous effort in preparing for this moment. I feel that I am at the peak of my readiness to achieve victory and deliver a performance worthy of my aspirations and the confidence of my team and fans.” He added: “If I am crowned with the belt, my opponent Usman has the right to request a new fight. I do not mind a rematch if necessary.”

For his part, Russian fighter Usman Nurmagomedov responded to his opponent’s statements, saying, “I don’t think my opponent deserves a rematch, but I wouldn’t mind a fourth fight for the belt. We’ll leave the decision to what happens inside the cage.”

Pouya Rahmani, a popular fighter in Dubai, expressed his great happiness at returning to competition after a period of absence due to injury and surgery. He emphasized that the preparations were at the highest level. He said, “Coming back after injury is never easy. But I worked hard and prepared hard for this fight. This fight represents a significant turning point in my career.”

Eisa Sharif Al Marzouqi, Director of the Sports Events Department at the Dubai Sports Council, emphasized that hosting this international championship falls within the framework of the Council’s vision. It aims to consolidate Dubai’s position as a global capital for major sporting events. He explained that its importance is not limited to the competitive aspect only. Additionally, it contributes to strengthening the emirate’s presence on the international sports scene. It also highlights its distinguished organizational capabilities. He pointed out that such events represent an inspiring platform for sports fans. Thus, they allow them to follow a selection of the most prominent martial arts stars up close. They also provide local and regional talents with a valuable opportunity to interact with international fighters. Therefore, they gain experience and enhance the progress of sports in the region.
