Amman, Jordan – In a gesture reflecting the ongoing royal support for Jordanian sports, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II held a video call on Sunday with the national football team players. This came ahead of their anticipated match against Algeria in the second round of the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Messages of support and confidence
During the call, His Royal Highness the Crown Prince conveyed the greetings and support of His Majesty King Abdullah II to the Jordanian national team, expressing his great confidence in the players’ ability to shoulder the responsibility and represent Jordan in the best possible way on the world stage. His Royal Highness also praised the team’s valiant performance and fighting spirit in their first match, emphasizing that they had instilled a sense of pride in all Jordanians. Furthermore, His Royal Highness urged the players to continue their journey with a unified team spirit, focusing on correcting their mistakes. He also stressed the importance of the role played by the coach and the technical staff.
For his part, national team captain Ihsan Haddad affirmed that the players’ morale is sky-high, emphasizing everyone’s awareness of the magnitude of the responsibility placed upon them. He also stressed the team’s determination to deliver a performance worthy of the Jordanian fans’ aspirations. In a related development, the Crown Prince expressed his support for the national team via Instagram with a video of gatherings of supportive Jordanian fans, commenting, “All of Jordan is behind you.”
Technical and moral readiness
The national team completed its technical and physical preparations at San Jose Park under the guidance of coach Jamal Sellami. This was in preparation for the match to be held on Tuesday morning, June 23, at San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in the United States.
Coach Salami confirmed in the press conference that the Jordanian national team is fully prepared to face the strong Algerian team, describing the match as pivotal and decisive in their qualification campaign. Salami added that the team will enter the match with the sole aim of winning and achieving a positive result that will boost their chances. For his part, player Yazan Al-Arab emphasized the players’ great passion to continue their journey in the tournament and bring joy to the fans.
The Jordanian national team is competing in the challenging Group J alongside Argentina, Algeria, and Austria, and the “Nashama” (Jordanian team) are aiming to make history in this World Cup. Before the conclusion of the first round, the Jordanian team will face Argentina on June 28th. The Jordanian team will wear red in Tuesday’s match, while the Algerian team will wear white.
