Makkah, Saudi Arabia – The first journeys of the Al-Mashaaer Al-Mugaddassah Metro (Makkah Metro) commenced today as part of operational preparations for the 2026 Hajj season. This initiative is part of a plan to facilitate the movement of pilgrims between the holy sites and reduce traffic congestion. The plan also aims to enhance the efficiency of logistical services during the Hajj period.
The Al-Mashaaer Metro is one of the most prominent modern transportation projects serving pilgrims. It connects Arafat, Muzdalifah, and Mina via a state-of-the-art rail network, enabling the transport of large numbers of pilgrims in record time and with a high level of safety and organization.
The operators explained that the early start of operations is aimed at testing the full readiness of operational systems and personnel. This ensures smooth traffic flow during the peak Hajj season while enhancing safety procedures and routine maintenance.
The train also constitutes a pivotal element in the transportation system within the Holy Sites, as it reduces congestion and decreases reliance on traditional buses. Furthermore, it enhances the overall experience for pilgrims.
This step is part of a series of intensive preparations being implemented by the relevant authorities in the Kingdom. The goal is to ensure an organized and safe Hajj season that accommodates the expected large numbers of pilgrims.
