California – Meta is expanding the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) across its digital platforms by developing advanced systems aimed at identifying accounts belonging to minors. This initiative is part of the company’s efforts to strengthen digital protection and provide a safer environment for children and teenagers on social media, addressing global concerns over cyberbullying and online exploitation.

Analyzing Digital Behavior to Verify True Age

The new systems rely on analyzing a wide range of digital and behavioral indicators, such as the nature of the content a user interacts with, writing patterns, and browsing habits. These technologies aim to verify whether an account holder is under the legal age, even if inaccurate age data was provided during registration. This allows for the immediate activation of automatic protection settings for suspected minor accounts.

Default Privacy Settings and Digital Awareness

New measures include restricting incoming messages from strangers, reducing the visibility of sensitive content, and enabling default privacy settings for suspected minor accounts. The initiative also involves sending awareness alerts to young users and parents regarding available digital safety tools. Tech experts view this step as an urgent necessity to curb digital addiction and protect privacy amidst the massive surge of social media usage among youth.

Balancing Protection and Digital Privacy

Conversely, these technologies spark ongoing debates regarding the boundaries of personal data collection and analysis. Specialists emphasize the need to strike a delicate balance between protecting children and respecting the digital privacy of users of all ages, ensuring that safety tools do not transform into instruments for digital surveillance or the infringement of personal rights.
