Beirut – A Lebanese official denied reports claiming Beirut and Tel Aviv reached a consensus on a shortlist of nations to monitor the verification mechanism for Hezbollah’s disarmament. Consequently, these official clarifications underscore the delicate nature of U.S.-mediated negotiations and Lebanon’s insistence on precise operational terms.

Furthermore, the official emphasized that talks with United States mediators are active and ongoing, correcting claims that countries such as Britain, Italy, Switzerland, and Indonesia were formally agreed upon. As a result, the structural design of the international verification mechanism and participating states remain undecided.

Weapon Monopolization and Regional Security Dynamics

On the other hand, these discussions tie into broader U.S.-backed arrangements linking phased Israeli troop withdrawals to measurable progress in empowering the Lebanese Army. Additionally, the question of Hezbollah’s military arsenal remains the primary friction point between state efforts to establish a weapons monopoly and domestic political opposition.

Consequently, the Lebanese government aims to navigate these talks toward safeguarding national sovereignty and enforcing state weapons authority. Ultimately, international mediation seeks to establish sustainable border security without triggering domestic instability.

Finally, Beirut’s denial highlights the high stakes and complex diplomacy governing southern border security. Ultimately, reaching a balanced diplomatic framework will determine the prospects for long-term regional stability.
