Washington, United States – In an intelligence development that may further complicate the already explosive scene between Washington and Tehran, the Wall Street Journal revealed in a report, on Thursday, that Israel has recently exchanged intelligence information with the United States. This information indicates the existence of a new Iranian plot aimed at assassinating US President Donald Trump. According to informed sources, this qualitative intelligence information, the precise details of which American officials were not previously aware of, is a dangerous indicator of a possible escalation in the intensity of the confrontation between the two parties.
Context of ongoing threats
This report comes as Tehran has repeatedly vowed revenge for the assassination of Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, in a 2020 US drone strike in Baghdad. That operation was ordered directly by Trump. US officials have previously indicated that they have uncovered several plots linked to Tehran targeting Trump and other senior officials. Most notably, in November 2024, the US Justice Department indicted an Iranian-linked operative for orchestrating a “contract killing” plot. This was followed in March 2026 by the conviction of a Pakistani national, allegedly with ties to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, for his involvement in a separate assassination attempt.
Official reactions
Commenting on the news, Trump, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One after returning from the NATO summit in Ankara, confirmed the existence of serious and ongoing threats against him personally. He said, “They want to take out the leader of the United States—me. I’m on every one of their lists.” The White House referred inquiries about the intelligence to Trump’s public statements. The Israeli embassy in Washington declined to comment, and the Iranian mission to the United Nations did not respond to requests for comment.
Extremely sensitive timing
This news comes amid heightened regional tensions, coinciding with the collapse of the ceasefire and the resumption of hostilities in the Strait of Hormuz. Furthermore, a series of joint military operations between Tel Aviv and Washington have targeted Iranian nuclear and military infrastructure. In coordination to address these challenges, President Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spoke by phone on Thursday, agreeing to maintain close and ongoing coordination between Washington and Jerusalem. As these plans continue to unfold, the question remains as to how these threats will influence the course of the open military and security confrontation between the United States and the Islamic Republic in the coming months.
