Doha, Qatar – The spokesman for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Majid Al-Ansari, affirmed on Monday that the recent Iranian war clearly demonstrated that the Arab states in the Gulf region should not rely entirely and unilaterally on the strategic partnership with the United States to preserve their national security and regional stability.

Al-Ansari’s remarks came during a high-level panel discussion at the third edition of the Hili Forum in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, according to a report by Reuters. The Qatari official explained, “We in the Gulf region must realize that the presence of international forces in the region and the establishment of a strategic alliance with the United States are crucial, but not sufficient. Self-sufficiency in the field of security is the only way forward.”

The current edition of the forum, held on September 7 and 8, 2026, is of paramount importance and exceptional significance, given that it is taking place amidst unprecedented tensions and far-reaching repercussions stemming from recent regional conflicts. The event brings together more than 1,000 participants and approximately 75 speakers from over 35 countries.
