Tel Aviv, Israel – Israel on Monday accused the Lebanese group Hezbollah of repeatedly violating the ceasefire agreement in recent days, in a political and military escalation that threatens to reignite widespread clashes. Meanwhile, official reports and Lebanese media indicated dozens of casualties and injuries in heavy Israeli airstrikes overnight. These strikes targeted villages and towns in southern Lebanon.
Israeli accusations of military violations
The Israeli Foreign Ministry, in an official statement published on its X platform, said that Hezbollah continues its ongoing efforts to rebuild its military capabilities in southern Lebanon. The statement read: “In just the past few days, Hezbollah has repeatedly violated the ceasefire agreement… These violations will not be tolerated.” The ministry explained that the alleged violations included repeated drone attacks, weapons stockpiling, and the establishment of infrastructure and command centers embedded within civilian areas. In a related development, Israeli Army Radio claimed that Hezbollah launched two drones toward Israeli forces in the Ali Taher Heights after midnight, without causing any casualties. The radio station indicated that the army responded by launching attacks targeting infrastructure and militants in the towns of Deir Zahrani and Kfar Rumman.
Kafr Rumman massacre and the death toll
On the ground, these accusations came after Israeli warplanes committed a horrific massacre against civilians at dawn today in the town of Kfar Rumman in the Nabatieh district. The Lebanese National News Agency and the Ministry of Public Health reported that a violent airstrike targeted a three-story residential building in the Al Farhat neighborhood. As a result, eight to nine people were killed (including a child and two women), and about 11 others were wounded, including children and a paramedic. An Israeli drone strike on an ambulance belonging to the Al-Risala Association in the same town also resulted in the deaths of two paramedics.
The escalation included intensive raids on the towns of Arab Salim and Nabatieh Al-Fawqa. A building in Deir Al-Zahrani was also targeted minutes after an Israeli warning to evacuate it. As these attacks continued, the Public Health Emergency Operations Center announced that the cumulative toll of the military escalation from March 2 to September 6 had risen to 4,362 dead. Also, the number of wounded exceeded more than 12,378.
