Liverpool, England – The European Football Association (UEFA) announced the refereeing team charged with managing the upcoming confrontation between Liverpool and Atletico Madrid, within the first round of the league stage of the Champions League for the 2026-2027 season.
Liverpool will host Atletico Madrid on Wednesday evening at Anfield, in one of the most prominent matches of the opening round of the European competition.
The English team enters the match after a strong start in the English Premier League, the latest of which was a 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town, while Atletico Madrid seeks to make amends after its 3-0 defeat to Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish League.
UEFA assigned the task of managing the match to Italian referee Davide Massa, assisted by his compatriots Filippo Meli and Alessio Berti, while Matteo Marcinaro will be the fourth official.
The European Union also appointed his compatriot Marco Di Bello as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR), assisted by Daniele Chivi.
