Moscow, Russia – Dmitry Polyanskiy, Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, warned that a number of European countries fail to grasp the risks of their escalating rhetoric toward Russia. He emphasized that current Western policies could further complicate the security situation and heighten international tensions.
Polyanskiy stated that some European capitals continue to adopt what he termed escalatory positions without fully understanding the potential consequences. He also noted that the continued flow of weapons to Ukraine and the imposition of further sanctions on Moscow are prolonging the crisis. This escalation, he argued, is not creating the conditions for a political solution.
The Russian official added that Moscow continues to emphasize the need to address the root causes of the crisis through dialogue and diplomatic means. He argued that ignoring Russia’s security concerns will only escalate tensions and could undermine the chances of reaching a lasting settlement.
Meanwhile, European countries continue their political and military support for Ukraine, asserting that this support is in defense of Kyiv’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. They also stress their commitment to continued coordination with their allies to increase pressure on Moscow until military operations cease.
Polyanskiy’s remarks come at a time of escalating tensions between Russia and the West, with the war in Ukraine continuing and both sides trading accusations about who is responsible for prolonging the conflict. In the same vein, there are repeated international warnings about the risks of a wider confrontation and its repercussions for security and stability in Europe and the world.
