Mogadishu, Somalia – The Somali Ministry of Defense announced the killing of 35 members of terrorist groups during a military operation conducted by the Somali National Army in cooperation with security forces in the Lower Shabelle region. This comes as part of ongoing operations aimed at pursuing al-Shabaab militants linked to al-Qaeda and regaining control of areas where they are active.
In a statement, the ministry explained that Somali forces carried out a precise operation targeting al-Shabaab positions and gatherings after intelligence revealed their movements. The statement also indicated that the operation resulted in the destruction of several sites used by the group to plan and execute attacks.
The Ministry of Defense confirmed that the forces participating in the operation achieved their objectives without setbacks. It also emphasized that military campaigns against terrorist organizations will continue until their threat is eliminated and security and stability are strengthened throughout the country.
For its part, the Somali government, with the support of its regional and international partners, continues to conduct large-scale military operations against al-Shabaab. The group launches attacks targeting government forces and civilian and military installations in several provinces.
Lower Shabelle region holds strategic importance in the fight against terrorism, as it is one of the main areas where al-Shabaab is active. Somali authorities assert that recent military operations have made significant progress in reducing the group’s influence and cutting off its supply lines. This is part of broader efforts to establish security and stability in the country.
