Brussels, Belgium – NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte affirmed that European rearmament programs not only enhance the continent’s defense capabilities but also support the US economy, contributing to the creation of approximately 195,000 jobs in the United States.
Rutte explained that many European countries rely on the American defense industry to implement their military modernization and armament plans. This directly translates into increased production for American companies operating in the defense sector. Furthermore, it contributes to the creation of thousands of jobs in manufacturing, engineering, technology, and related services.
He noted that transatlantic defense cooperation is a cornerstone of collective security. He also emphasized that increased European military spending not only serves the security of the European continent but also strengthens the defense industrial base of NATO members, particularly the United States.
The NATO Secretary General added that the alliance encourages member states to continue investing in their defense capabilities, given the growing security challenges facing the world. He also noted that increased defense spending contributes to strengthening the readiness of armed forces and developing modern military technologies.
Rutte’s remarks come at a time when European countries continue to increase their military budgets in response to security developments, primarily the war in Ukraine. There is also a widespread trend toward strengthening defense cooperation with the United States and modernizing weapons systems. This is being done in line with the requirements of common security within NATO.
