Cairo, Egypt – Arab League Secretary-General Ahmed Aboul Gheit welcomed the announcement of a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran, considering it an important development that could contribute to calming the situation and reducing tensions in the Middle East.
Aboul Gheit emphasized that resorting to diplomatic solutions and direct dialogue between the concerned parties is the most effective option for addressing existing disputes. He also stressed the need to capitalize on any understandings that could support regional and international security and stability.
He pointed out that the current phase requires strengthening de-escalation efforts and avoiding further escalation, in order to safeguard the interests of the region’s peoples and mitigate the repercussions of the successive political and security crises.
The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States added that this step could pave the way for further understandings in the future, contributing to building trust between the two sides. He also explained that this would have a positive impact on regional conditions. This remains particularly important given the complex issues facing the region.
Aboul Gheit concluded by affirming the Arab League’s support for all efforts and initiatives aimed at resolving conflicts through peaceful means. Moreover, these efforts contribute to achieving collective security and enhancing stability in the region.
