Honolulu, United States – U.S. Representative Ed Case secured a decisive victory in Hawaii’s Democratic primary election. He successfully fended off a competitive challenge from progressive state Senator Jarrett Keohokalole. Consequently, this outcome underscores the enduring influence of moderate Democrats within key districts. It also defies broader national trends that have seen progressive insurgents unseat established incumbents.

Furthermore, official election tallies showed the 73-year-old Case securing approximately 57% to 60% of the vote. In contrast, Keohokalole received 34% to 36%. As a result, Case remains heavily favored to retain Hawaii’s 1st Congressional District seat—a reliable Democratic stronghold encompassing Honolulu—in the upcoming general election.

Generational Debates and Statewide Primary Results

On the other hand, Keohokalole’s campaign centered on calls for generational change. He criticized Case’s corporate campaign contributions and moderate voting record. In response, Case emphasized his legislative experience and congressional seniority on the House Appropriations Committee. He argued that his tenure directly benefits Hawaii in securing federal funding.

Additionally, in other primary contests across Hawaii, Democratic Representative Jill Tokuda comfortably won re-election nomination in the 2nd Congressional District. Meanwhile, Governor Josh Green secured his party’s nomination for a second gubernatorial term. Consequently, these outcomes illustrate a strong preference among Hawaii voters for established leadership and political continuity.

Finally, Case’s victory demonstrates the continued viability of moderate candidates against left-wing primary challenges. Ultimately, legislative experience and federal seniority proved decisive factors for voters shaping Hawaii’s congressional delegation.
