Washington, DC – US media reports have revealed classified intelligence assessments suggesting that Iran retains a significant portion of its missile capabilities, despite ongoing military pressure and sanctions targeting its defense programs in recent years.
According to US media outlets citing informed officials, the intelligence assessments indicate that Tehran has successfully maintained a robust missile infrastructure. This infrastructure includes launch sites and production and storage facilities distributed across multiple locations. This makes any attempts to completely dismantle the program extremely difficult.
The reports added that Iran has relied in recent years on developing defensive strategies based on dispersing its military capabilities and expanding its underground infrastructure. In addition, it has strengthened its ballistic missile and drone programs, allowing it to maintain operational capabilities even if some sites are targeted.
US security circles believe that Iran’s missile program remains one of Tehran’s most important deterrents, especially given its possession of missiles of varying ranges that could be used in any potential regional confrontation. This is a source of concern for the United States and its allies in the Middle East.
In contrast, Iran repeatedly asserts that its missile programs are defensive in nature and aimed at protecting national security. It also rejects any Western demands to halt the development of these capabilities, citing what it describes as the ongoing threats it faces in the region.
These assessments come at a time of escalating tensions in the region. Indirect confrontations and exchanges of military and political messages between Washington and Tehran continue. Amidst this, there are warnings that any further escalation could push the situation in the Middle East into an even more dangerous and complex phase.
