  • Integrated production and supply to international markets
  • Russian concern and escalation on NATO’s eastern flank

Riga, Latvia – The Latvian Ministry of Economy announced that Minister of Economy Viktors Valaines officially signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with the American company Native Trading, outlining the construction of a state-of-the-art artillery rocket manufacturing plant in Latvia. The ministry stated that the project aims to attract at least €70 million in private investment and that it is planned to be fully implemented within 24 months of the agreement’s signing and the commencement of construction and preparatory work.

Integrated production and supply to international markets

The ministry added that the massive investment project includes the construction of a fully integrated artillery rocket production plant, covering all major production stages with high precision, from solid fuel manufacturing and warhead filling to final assembly and field testing. The Latvian government confirmed that the produced shells and rockets are intended not only to meet the needs of the Latvian army and strengthen its national defense capabilities, but also for export to allied international markets.

Russian concern and escalation on NATO’s eastern flank

This military and economic move comes at a time when NATO countries continue to bolster their defense and deterrence capabilities. It is worth noting that Russia has expressed serious concern in recent years about NATO’s unprecedented military activity along its western borders, where the alliance is reinforcing its forces under the pretext of “deterring aggression” against its eastern flank.

For its part, the Kremlin has repeatedly indicated that Russia poses no threat to any regional or international party, but on the other hand, it has stressed that it will never ignore any military or strategic moves that may pose a direct threat to its national interests and national security in the region.
