Abu Dhabi, UAE – European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced via the X platform that she had spoken with Mohammed bin Zayed, President of the UAE. She affirmed the European Union’s full support and offered condolences to the families of the victims of the recent Iranian attacks.

A blatant violation of sovereignty

Von der Leyen described the attacks as a clear violation of the UAE’s sovereignty and a breach of international law. She also noted that this was not the first time the country had been targeted by missile and drone attacks from Iran and its proxies.

The Commission President affirmed that Europe stands in full solidarity with its partners in the region. She also emphasized the European Union’s commitment to supporting the stability and security of the Arabian Gulf.

Strengthening regional cooperation

Von der Leyen explained that she will continue to engage with key regional partners to strengthen cooperation and coordination in addressing threats. She also emphasized the importance of international unity in countering these unjustified attacks.

These statements come at a time of heightened regional tensions. The countries involved are closely monitoring developments, focusing on safeguarding security and stability in the Gulf region.

Von der Leyen affirmed that Europe will continue to provide political and diplomatic support to Abu Dhabi, with a focus on protecting its sovereignty and preventing a recurrence of such attacks in the future.
