Washington, United States – US President Donald Trump has acknowledged the difficulty for Republicans to win the 2026 midterm elections, despite what he considers “great economic successes” during his current year in the White House.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Trump said, “I’ve created the greatest economy in history, but it takes time for voters to notice.” He added that the money flowing into the economy is being used for strategic projects, including car factories and artificial intelligence development. However, he acknowledged uncertainty about whether these achievements will translate into votes.
Since returning to the White House in January 2025, Trump has consistently maintained that the American economy is booming like never before. He blames his Democratic predecessor, Joe Biden, for inflation.
Recent polls indicate that Americans have limited satisfaction with the president’s economic policies. A University of Chicago poll conducted for the Associated Press found that only 31% of Americans approve of the Trump administration’s economic performance.
Trump, who was re-elected in November 2024 on a promise to reduce inflation, said via his Truth Social platform: “When will the world recognize that I created the best economy in American history with no inflation?”
Despite his confidence, the 79-year-old president acknowledged that even successful presidents face political setbacks. He added, “We’ll see what happens. We should win, but statistically it’s very difficult to win.”
