Tel Aviv, Israel – Amid unprecedented escalation in military tensions between the United States and Iran and the potential for renewed all-out war, US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held in-depth telephone talks. The conversation focused on the latest regional developments and military plans.
According to prominent Israeli journalist Amit Segal, the conversation between the two leaders was “long and very crucial.” It also came at a highly sensitive time, preceding anticipated strategic decisions.
Trump’s threats and the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s response
Following this call, President Trump tweeted a new and direct threat to Tehran, saying, “We will end the war with Iran very quickly,” and reiterating his firm assertion that Iran will never possess nuclear weapons.
In response, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued a swift and threatening statement: “The American-Israeli enemy, which has not learned from its major defeats, is issuing new threats despite attacking us with the full force of its armies—the most expensive armies in the world—while we have yet to unleash the full potential of the Islamic Revolution against it.” The IRGC added, in a clear challenge: “We are men of war, and you will see our true strength on the battlefield, not in empty statements and on websites.”
Behind the scenes at the White House and the weekend anticipation
In Washington, expectations are growing within political circles that President Donald Trump will make a final decision regarding a new military strike against Iran by the end of this week.
Senior White House officials confirmed to the Israeli news site Walla that while intensive negotiations are currently underway behind the scenes with Tehran, mediated by Gulf states and Pakistan, Washington is simultaneously sending strongly worded messages through the president and vice president. This is intended to make it clear that “all options remain on the table.”
Meanwhile, Trump is constantly conducting on-the-ground assessments of the situation. He is being presented with war scenarios in private, closed-door meetings with his national security team at the White House.
Trump himself seems determined to end things as quickly as possible. He stated, “We’re going to end this war very quickly. They’re desperate to make a deal in Tehran; they’re fed up with all this. This should have happened 47 years ago. Someone had to do something about this, and it’s going to happen, and it’s going to happen very quickly.”
