Beirut, Lebanon – Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam affirmed that the ongoing war in the region is not Lebanon’s war. He pointed out that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard’s rejection of the ceasefire agreement is clear evidence that Lebanon is not a party to this conflict.
This came during his speech at the “Launching the Second Urgent Humanitarian Appeal” conference.
In his address, he discussed the war’s repercussions on the humanitarian and economic situation in the country.
Warning of worsening humanitarian crisis
Salam said the cost of responding to humanitarian needs has become extremely heavy
as a result of the ongoing war and its repercussions on Lebanon.
He stressed that the country faces increasing challenges that require
international support and intensified efforts to alleviate the suffering of those affected.
He added that political negotiations are still ongoing, but remain insufficient
given the continued clashes and the widening circle of tension in the region.
The Lebanese Prime Minister emphasized that the people of southern Lebanon
are not party to the ongoing confrontation between Washington and Tehran.
He affirmed that Lebanese citizens should not pay the price for regional conflicts in which they have no part.
Affirming the sovereignty of the Lebanese state
Salam indicated that protecting civilians and maintaining internal stability must be a top priority during this current phase.
The Lebanese Prime Minister emphasized that no war should be waged on Lebanese soil
without the consent of the state and its legitimate institutions.
He also stressed that the decision for peace and war must remain solely in the hands of the state.
He addressed a direct message to Iran, stating that Lebanon is not a bargaining chip for anyone,
and that southern Lebanon is not a contingency plan for any party.
He affirmed his government’s commitment to the country’s sovereignty
and its rejection of using it as an arena for settling regional or international scores.
