Beirut, Lebanon – The Israeli Public Broadcasting Corporation reported that the Israeli army is preparing in the coming days to execute an operation targeting infrastructure and tunnels in the Ali al-Taher heights in southern Lebanon, in a move it noted precedes a redeployment of forces further back from the border.
Infrastructure Demolition in Ali al-Taher
According to the report, the Israeli army intends to destroy tunnels and existing infrastructure in the Ali al-Taher heights before transitioning into a new phase of military presence across the border sector. These movements unfold amidst continued field tensions in southern Lebanon, running parallel to political efforts aimed at establishing updated security arrangements.
Withdrawal From the “Yellow Line”
The broadcasting authority stated that Israeli forces will withdraw, following the completion of tunnel demolitions in Ali al-Taher, from positions situated along the “Yellow Line” to establish positions within a zone designated as the “Grey Line.” This strip extends between two to four kilometers from the Israeli border, indicating a tactical repositioning rather than a full withdrawal.
Resident Return Tied to Rome Talks
In the same context, the report noted that Israel informed the Lebanese government that permitting displaced residents to return to evacuated zones will depend on the outcome of negotiations set to resume next week in Rome. Israel links the return file to negotiated security parameters, leaving the exact structure of military deployment in southern Lebanon a primary issue on the bargaining table.
