Tehran – The Iranian Foreign Ministry announced a formal agreement with the Sultanate of Oman regarding a new navigation map for maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, following weeks of technical and political consultations. Consequently, this bilateral understanding establishes designated safe corridors for commercial vessels navigating the strategic choke point.

Furthermore, Iranian officials clarified that these routing coordinates represent a temporary framework lasting two to four months or longer, serving as an interim solution until broader agreements are finalized. Additionally, the agreed routing plan spans sections of both Iranian and Omani territorial waters to protect commercial shipping under current security conditions.

Impact of the US Blockade on Shipping and Energy Markets

On the other hand, Tehran explicitly linked the complete restoration of maritime traffic to the termination of the US blockade and hostile naval measures. Additionally, Omani diplomatic mediation persists in seeking broader guarantees to preserve regional maritime stability and prevent military friction.

Consequently, the bilateral accord holds major economic significance given the Strait of Hormuz‘s critical role in global oil and LNG transport. Ultimately, the managed corridor aims to alleviate global market anxieties surrounding energy supply disruptions and surging maritime insurance costs.

Finally, the deal highlights Tehran and Muscat’s localized approach to managing regional waterways. Ultimately, lasting maritime security will depend on broader diplomatic resolutions between Washington and Tehran.
