Islamabad, Pakistan – Speaker of the Pakistani National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, met with Member of the European Parliament, Ondrej De Staël, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between Pakistan and the European Union. The two sides focused on developing parliamentary relations and supporting peace and stability efforts in the region.
During the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of expanding communication channels between legislative bodies. This facilitates the exchange of experiences and perspectives and strengthens political relations between Islamabad and Brussels. They also noted the importance of exploring new areas of cooperation on issues of mutual interest.
The talks addressed a number of international challenges, including the repercussions of climate change. The Pakistani side stressed the need to strengthen international efforts to confront the growing effects of this phenomenon, particularly on countries most vulnerable to disasters and environmental consequences.
Regional developments were also discussed, with Pakistan reaffirming its commitment to supporting peace and stability. It emphasized the importance of using dialogue and diplomatic means to resolve crises and conflicts, preferring these methods to escalation and confrontation.
Ayaz Sadiq highlighted the important role parliamentary diplomacy can play in bridging differences. He explained that this type of diplomacy fosters understanding between countries, especially in light of the increasing tensions in various parts of the world.
