Washington, DC – The US State Department has revealed that it has revoked more than 175,000 visas for foreign nationals since President Donald Trump took office. This comes as part of a broader campaign to tighten controls on visa holders and more strictly enforce immigration laws.

The department explained that the revocations included cases related to legal violations and crimes. They also included violations of visa conditions, cases involving fraud or irregular immigration, and security concerns.

The reasons cited by U.S. authorities for some visa revocations included charges or convictions related to assault, theft, drug offenses, driving under the influence, and violence. More serious crimes such as sexual assault, kidnapping, human trafficking, and child exploitation were also cited.

The campaign also included a review of several visas that authorities said were linked to practices aimed at circumventing immigration laws. These practices included traveling to the United States to have children in order to obtain U.S. citizenship.

The State Department confirmed that the visa review is part of a broader effort to strengthen security screening procedures and ensure foreigners comply with U.S. laws. It noted that a visa can be revoked if new information emerges that affects the holder’s eligibility.

These measures reflect a tightening of the Trump administration’s immigration policy. This coincides with increased scrutiny of criminal records and information provided during visa application processes.

Authorities have also expanded their review of the status of certain visa holders already in the United States, particularly in cases where violations or significant changes in the visa holder’s circumstances are discovered.

This policy comes as the US administration seeks to curb irregular immigration and tighten controls on the entry of foreigners. It also underscores the priority of national security and the enforcement of immigration laws.

The wide-ranging visa cancellations are generating significant interest, particularly given the potential impact on thousands of individuals who held valid visas. Washington maintains that the decisions are based on legal and security reviews.

The State Department is expected to continue reviewing visa applications in the coming period. This comes as the administration moves toward imposing stricter standards regarding the entry, residency, and compliance with U.S. laws for foreigners.
