Aden, Yemen – The Houthi group in Yemen announced on Sunday that it had targeted a Saudi Aramco refinery in the Jazan region of southwestern Saudi Arabia with a drone. This came as Saudi authorities announced a fire had broken out at one of the refinery’s facilities. Authorities said the fire was extinguished without any reported injuries. The group stated in a statement carried by its media outlets that a drone had targeted the Aramco refinery in Jazan. However, the group did not provide further details regarding the nature of the damage or losses resulting from the operation.
Fire at one of the refinery’s facilities
In contrast, the Saudi Ministry of Energy announced that a fire broke out early this morning at one of the facilities of the Jazan refinery, owned by Aramco. The ministry explained that Aramco’s industrial security firefighting teams were able to control and extinguish the fire. Additionally, it confirmed that no injuries were reported as a result of the incident. According to available information, the Saudi statement did not confirm that the fire was caused by a drone attack. Furthermore, the authorities did not release details regarding the extent of the damage to the facility.
Jazan Refinery
The Jazan refinery is one of Aramco’s main facilities in southwestern Saudi Arabia, with a design capacity of approximately 400,000 barrels per day. It also produces a number of petroleum products. The Jazan region is located near the Saudi-Yemeni border. In recent years, the area has been the target of attacks and attempted attacks. Some of these incidents have been claimed by the Houthi group.
