Algeria – Algerian authorities have revealed the preliminary findings of the investigation into the Boumerdès bus crash. The findings indicate serious violations, including excessive speed and the driver’s use of drugs. These violations are believed to be the primary cause of the accident.

Authorities explained that medical tests confirmed the presence of narcotics in the driver’s system. Meanwhile, technical inspections showed that the bus was traveling at a speed exceeding the legal limit. This contributed to the driver losing control and causing the crash.

Authorities added that investigation teams are continuing to gather evidence and interview witnesses and survivors. In addition, they are examining the bus’s mechanical condition and verifying the transport company’s adherence to approved safety procedures.

They confirmed that the case will be referred to the judiciary as soon as the investigations are complete. Then, legal action can be taken against all those responsible for the accident. They emphasized the strict application of the law in cases that affect public safety.

The accident has sparked a wave of calls for stricter oversight of the public transportation sector. There are also requests for mandatory periodic drug testing for drivers. Moreover, enhanced traffic safety measures are being called for to reduce accidents and protect passengers’ lives.
