Washington, DC – The New York Times, citing recent data from the Pentagon, reported that the total number of US military personnel wounded in US military operations against Iran has risen to 624. In an update to its official database of military casualties, the Pentagon announced that the total number of casualties from the ongoing confrontations with Iran has reached 18 dead and 624 wounded.

The US Department of Defense has introduced a new category for recording casualties resulting from combat following the resumption of attacks this July, a category entirely separate from casualties from the initial phase of the conflict. The newspaper reported that, starting Sunday, the Pentagon began publishing detailed casualty figures, including those recorded since July 7—the date that marked the start of a new escalation—as well as total casualties since the initial launch of the military operation in February.

The newspaper quoted informed military sources as saying that this logistical change in the way data was released came after the United States and Iran entered into a ceasefire agreement last April, while the most recent recorded casualties date back to operations in July. The reports added that the official number of soldiers wounded since the latest escalation on July 7 alone reached 207, bringing the total number of wounded since the conflict began to 624.

In a related development, the newspaper had previously reported that the number of American casualties in the war with Iran had unexpectedly dropped on the Pentagon’s website, noting that three military officials and a ministry representative had offered conflicting and contradictory explanations for what had happened. In response, Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell quickly dismissed these media reports as “false,” emphasizing the accuracy and reliability of the official data released by the department to monitor the progress of military operations and their logistical and operational developments in the strategic region.
