Aden, Yemen – Southern Yemeni governorates witnessed a widespread wave of popular protests, with hundreds of citizens taking to the streets in several cities to express their anger over the deteriorating economic and service conditions. This comes amidst a continuing electricity crisis, soaring prices, and a plummeting value of the local currency.
The protesters chanted slogans demanding that the authorities take immediate action to improve living standards and provide basic services. Electricity, water, and fuel were among their primary demands. They also called for measures to curb the economic collapse, which has directly impacted the lives of citizens.
The protests spread to several southern governorates, prompting a security deployment in a number of areas to monitor developments and maintain order. Meanwhile, activists called for a response to the protesters’ demands and swift action to address the escalating crises.
These popular movements come at a time when Yemen is facing significant economic and humanitarian challenges as a result of years of conflict. Furthermore, there are local and international calls to intensify efforts aimed at achieving stability and improving the living conditions of citizens.
