Amman, Jordan – The Jordanian government announced today, Thursday, July 9, 2026, that Jordanian airspace was violated by missiles launched from within Iranian territory. It confirmed that the Jordanian Armed Forces effectively countered these threats.
Official announcement and military response
Minister of Government Communications and official spokesperson, Mohammad Momani, explained that the Public Security Directorate activated sirens across the Kingdom as a precautionary measure. This followed the detection of a missile incursion into Jordanian airspace originating from Iran.
Momani confirmed in his statement that state agencies responded to the incursion immediately upon detection. He also emphasized that border guards and air defense forces successfully intercepted the projectiles that entered Jordanian airspace.
In a message of reassurance to citizens, Al-Momani wrote on his official X account: “The valiant Jordanian Armed Forces are fully prepared to deal with any threat to the Kingdom and are dedicating all their efforts to preserving the security of the nation and the safety of its citizens.” He added that the General Command of the Armed Forces is monitoring regional developments closely and places the security and stability of the Kingdom at the forefront of its priorities.
Call to adhere to official guidelines
The Jordanian government urged citizens and residents to remain calm and follow all instructions and guidelines issued by official security authorities to ensure their safety. The government spokesperson also warned against the dangers of being misled by rumors and unverified information circulating on social media platforms amidst the tense regional situation. He affirmed that the government and relevant authorities will provide the public with any further information and immediate updates as soon as they become available.
This breach comes amid escalating military tensions in the region and the expansion of direct confrontations between regional actors. This presents Jordan with ongoing security challenges in maintaining its airspace sovereignty and the safety of its citizens. The Jordanian government affirms that the Kingdom’s security is a red line and that the armed forces are at the highest level of readiness to respond to any breach or threat to national security. Meanwhile, security services are continuing field surveys to ensure that the areas where fragments or remnants of these missiles fell are free of any further risks to the lives of citizens.
