Beirut, Lebanon – Amidst current geopolitical shifts, researcher and political analyst Tariq Abu Zeinab focused on the French president’s visit to Syria.
He considered it a significant event carrying highly sensitive political and security messages.
Speaking on MTV, Abu Zeinab explained that the visit coincided with security tensions and bombings in Damascus.
Therefore, this gives it a special character that transcends traditional diplomatic protocols.
Notable economic moves
Abu Zeinab indicated that the message conveyed by this visit might be that Syria is “paying the price” for its past political and security stances.
However, the visit also included notable economic moves.
The political analyst emphasized that the Syrian government and current political
leadership are seeking to capitalize on Syria’s unique strategic location.
Syria is a vital link between the Arabian Gulf region and Iraq on one side,
and the Mediterranean Sea (Marseille) on the other. This is a crucial route that has gained increasing importance
following the crises in the Strait of Hormuz and their repercussions on international maritime security.
Damascus opens up to the world
Abu Zeinab concluded his analysis by emphasizing that Damascus is currently attempting to open up to the world
through an ambitious roadmap that includes strengthening relations
with Lebanon and other countries, combating terrorism, and reconstruction.
This comes as an effort to present itself as a regional player capable of achieving economic and political stability.
