Moscow, Russia – The Russian Defense Ministry announced that its forces have captured five new villages in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions of eastern Ukraine,
as part of ongoing military operations on the eastern front.
There was no immediate comment from the Ukrainian side regarding these developments.
Russian advance in Kharkiv
The ministry stated in its daily briefing that Russia forces had taken control of
four villages in the Kharkiv region: Shikeivka, Novy Mir, Chernyshina, and Drozlyubevka.
It also indicated that these moves were part of what it described as a continued
expansion of areas of control and improvement of tactical positions along the front line.
Control of a village in Donetsk
The statement added that Russian forces also took control of the village of Vasilievka in the Donetsk region.
This is one of the regions that has witnessed continuous battles for months,
as Moscow seeks to strengthen its influence in the Donbass region,
which represents a main axis of the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
Ongoing field developments
These announcements come amid escalating fighting on the eastern Ukrainian front,
with both sides claiming territorial gains in various areas.
The Kharkiv and Donetsk regions have been among the most active battlegrounds recently.
Russia forces are attempting to consolidate their gains,
while Ukraine maintains its offensive and defensive operations to retake territory held by Moscow.
The reports of the capture of the villages mentioned could not be independently verified due to the ongoing clashes.
Access to some areas of fighting in eastern Ukraine remains difficult.
