Washington, DC – The US House Foreign Affairs Committee urged the Trump administration to maintain maximum financial and political pressure on the Iranian regime. In its tenth report, the committee noted that the administration’s stringent economic measures have placed the Iranian economy under unprecedented and severe strain. The committee asserted that this decisive approach is significantly reducing the Iranian government’s financial resources. As a result, it is limiting its ability to fund foreign activities and pushing the country toward internal collapse.
Congressional voices: Targeting the Revolutionary Guard and supporting the people’s aspirations
For his part, Republican Representative Don Bacon, in comments published on the X platform, affirmed that the primary objective of the US strategy is to ensure that Tehran does not acquire nuclear weapons and to maintain freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. Bacon explained that the optimal approach is to target the infrastructure of the Revolutionary Guard and destabilize the regime by strangling its economy. He also pointed to the suffering of the Iranian people and their aspirations for freedom.
Diplomatic obstacles and a lack of clear leadership
On the presidential level, President Donald Trump asserted that the significant losses suffered by the Iranian leadership and the decline in its military capabilities have made reaching a political agreement with Tehran extremely difficult. In an interview with WABC-77, Trump explained that Iran’s military capabilities have been severely impacted, affecting its navy, air force, and military command. He noted that the absence of clear and known leadership hinders the completion of any potential settlement. Trump concluded by emphasizing that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remains the United States’ absolute priority. He warned that Tehran would not hesitate to use such a destructive weapon against Israel and the entire Middle East if it were to obtain it.
